Week 6- Exchanges!!

 Hey Y'ALL!

How is everyone doing? I hope everyone has had a good start to a new week!

This past week has been so awesome!! We had exchanges which is where Sister Goeckeritz and I head over to the Sister Training Leaders area and help our in there! It was fun- I was with Sister Hatch who only has a couple transfers left! She is so awesome and is so full of the spirit! Sister Hatch and I went over to a Less active lady's home and shared a spiritual message and ate these really nasty German Christmas candies! haha Let's just say it was an experience!

That night though we got, wait for it..... WHATABURGER!! I've been wanting to try this stuff sense I got to the south! For those of you who dont know what whataburger is its a fast food joint. Haha it was sooo good though. Everything I could've ever imagined but.... not as good as red robin of course! I also tried deer meat that Gene (our investigator) gave us with spaghetti! I was so nervous but is turns out it wasnt actually bad. I did even notice a difference!

Speaking of Gene we are still on track for his baptism on February 3rd! He is honestly been so amazing through this whole process. He is taking all the right steps to enter the waters of baptism! I'm just so proud of him!

Anywho I hope all of you have an amazing week and find time to appreciate the little things in life... like Whataburger! Haha love you guys!

Week 5- Glory to God!!

Hey everyone!!! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. Its just your fav sista comin at ya with another weekly email!

This week has been one heck of a week! We met so many potential investigators like good ol' Johnny Mae who we met tracking! She was so hesitant at first when listening to our message but after talking to her and helping her understand a little bit she invited us to come back and teach her later this week! I'm so excited!!!

This week we have had the ultimate weather change. One day its raining like cats and dogs.Tthe next its 70 degrees and the latest thing is the snow we received just last night haha its been awesome! No one knows how to drive in the snow down here haha. My companion Sister Goeckeritz and I knocked doors the whole time is rain though and i can honestly say that that was probably one of the funnest times I've knocked doors sense I've been out here haha.

I'm getting to know the Shreveport ward so well! The ward is so sweet and willing to help us missionaries out which is always awesome! We have been sharing the Living Christ Document with a lot of the members. (If you have not read this Document i highly recommend it! It is so Spiritually uplifting!!) We ask everyone the same thing every time. Which is, describe Christ in one word. The best part about this question is that EVERYONE we've asked has a different word to describe him! Its amazing! Christ has a different way of touching each one of our lives. He knows us, He is pushing for us, and most of all he loves out completely flaws and all.

Ok everyone hold on to your horses now! (drum roll please) We got 2 people to commit to baptism this last week!!! Deborah committed to baptism on Thursday. We are shooting for February 24th. She is such a sweet lady! We met her while delivering a bible to one of her neighbors Edna who we are also teaching! We taught her the first lesson which is on the restoration and she was hooked! She is so prepared by the Lord and although she may not understand everything right now she is willing to learn and really thats all that God asks!

We also got Gene to commit to Baptism! Gene Is such an amazing dude who has gone through so much in his life. We met him through his wife who is a member of the church. At first he wanted nothing to do with us but through time God softened his heart and he has chosen to not only investigate the church but be baptized! He has really taken the time to think about baptism to see if this is really something he wants to do and he came to the conclusion that without a shadow of a doubt he wants to be apart of this church! I am so proud of the challenges he has over come to get to where he is now! He is being prepared to be baptized on February 3rd!
Overall this week has been one great big miracle! I am so honored and proud to be apart of this work! I can't wait to see what comes next!

I love you all so much and wish you guys the best!!

Week 4- Shreveport, Louisiana!

Hey Everyone!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I'm finally out of the MTC and in the mission field! My first area is Shreveport Louisiana!! I'll be staying in for quite sometime for training and all that which should be super fun! I got a new companion her name is Sister Goeckeritz! She'll be my trainer I'm pretty sure the whole 12 weeks but as of right now we are unsure if she'll get transferred in week 6. But until then we are just gonna be partying it up while teaching the gospel!

This week has been crazy! My journey to Shreveport started on Wednesday when I left the MTC at 3 in the MORNING. Let me tell you it was a process. We started out on a bus, then to a train, and then to a front runner, and then finally made it to the plane. There I said goodbye to half of my district including Sister Kunzler :( But I continued to Jackson which was about a 4 hour flight with half my district which was pretty fun. When getting to Jackson, we were welcomed by the mission President and his wife (President and Sister Olson) along with a few other missionaries! We then traveled to a church in Mississippi, had a little Devotional, ate and then went to Presidents house where I slept in the most comfortable twin bed known to man haha! It was there I would learn my first area of Shreveport and my companion Sister Goeckeritz.

It was a 3 hour drive to Shreveport the next morning but we finally made it! I had to say goodbye to the rest of my district but I was excited for a new adventure. I met up with Sister Goekeritz and just like that the real mission experience began!

The first day i got to Shreveport I was able to unpack and get the essentials (food) from the store. Then i met a member from the ward, Sister Sweeney she is such a kind lady! She kinda gave me a feel for what Shreveport is all about!

Through out these past few days I think my most favorite parts were 1. When we ran into Micheal Ray and Leroy. They talked and talked to Sister Goeckeritz and I. Leroy even tried to convince us that his dad was the first African American man to play baseball and that he was a hall of famer. While all this was going down they both were just smoking dubee for everyone to see. Probably one of the most funniest and interesting moments of my life haha. 2. We got an investigator (Gene) to attend church! He was so awesome and was just full of participation! It was great!

Well all is well in Shreveport!

I love you guys!

Week 3! #heavenstobetsy

HAPPY YEAR!!!

I hope everyone had a great New Years! Throughout this week I got the chance to clean the Provo temple! We got to clean the chandeliers that are real Crystal! Let’s just say the pressure was on haha.

New Years was was amazing we got the wonderful opportunity to hear Brad Wilcox talk and hear Lexi Walker sing! They were amazing. I also got the opportunity to say goodbye to my amazing teachers, Sister Miller and Brother Harris. We also had the chance to have a district goodbye party. We shared first impressions and impressions we have now of each other and then end with our testimonies. It was so fun and really cool! I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again I love my district! I’m so sad to leave them but I can’t wait for the adventures to come.

My testimony has been strengthened so much through out this week. Brad Wilcox in the devotional stated “Worthiness is not flawlessness, worthiness is trying.” I love that quote! I can testify that as long as you try your mistakes will be made up for through Jesus Christ.

I love all of you and hope you have a great week!

Week 2!

What a week!!!! This week has been sooooooo fun! I hope everyone had a
wonderful Christmas! I had the amazing opportunity to hear Elder
Anderson from the quorum of the 12! I along with my district and a ton
of other missionaries had the wonderful opportunity to sing in the MTC
choir for the the devotional he spoke in! It was amazing! The choir
director is so funny but knows exactly what he is doing and I loved
working with him! We also had David Archeauleta come and perform for
us! He did such an amazing job and after he performed he wanted to
shake every missionaries hand........ that’s a lot of hands!!!!

This Christmas has been one for the books! Christmas Eve was so
special. I’ve never felt the spirit so much before! We watched a live
nativity performed by the presidents children which was so cute! We
got to watch a movie on Christmas and Christmas Eve which was pretty
great haha. There was so much that the MTC did for us that I can’t
even remember it all and I’m so grateful for that! I’m so grateful for
my district that I am serving with! They are all so special and in
tuned with the spirit! We have become so close over these past 2
weeks! I honestly couldn’t have asked for anyone better to serve with
then my district!

I have learned so much over the course of these two weeks! One thing
I’ve learned that has really stuck with me that Elder Nelson shared in
our devotional was “our faith is Jesus Christ is not faith in vain.”
Our savior Jesus Christ lives. He lives for me, he lives for you, he
lives for everyone. “We lived with our savior before, we try to live
with him now, and if we do our part we WILL live with him again” Elder
Anderson. I know this to be true and I invite you all to live your
lives so that you can return to our savior again!

I love you all so much and hope you all have an amazing week!

Week 1- First Email!

Hello everyone!

Sister Thornton here..... man that sounds weird! Haha my first week
has be crazy! I’ve learned so much about this gospel more then I ever
thought I would in just one week! I’ve learned a lot about being a
missionary but I know there is a lot more to learn and I’m so excited
for that! This week has definitely been one of the harder weeks of my
life. I’ve gone from happy to sad to lonely and even mad.... (ok I’m
pretty sure that rhymed. Mom, I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it!)
but thru all those emotions I’ve always been able to feel the comfort
of my Heavenly Father more then I ever have which is so weird but I am
so grateful for that! I am so grateful for the Sisters and Elders in
my district. They are all so full of the spirit and are super positive
which makes the experience even more amazing! My companion Sister
Kunzler and I get along so well! She is amazing, she is so patient and
kind and everything I need in a companion! Sister Kunzler will be
serving in the Nashville Tennessee mission which I’m sad we aren’t in
the same mission but I know she will do great things!

Any who I just want you all to know that this God is always with us!
He’ll pick you up when You're feeling down. He will leap for you when
you are happy and help when you are in need. All I can say is PRAY!
Haha trust me it’s helped me a lot.

I love you all so much and wish you the best
